Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu or Chengdu.
Day 2: City tour, Kathmandu or Panda breeding center & cultural show, Chengdu.
Days 3-6: Lhasa - explore this fantastic city including guided tours of the Potala alace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung & Sera Monasteries.
Days 7-9: Travel north to the sacred lake - Namtso.
Days 10-11: The fortress-palace of Yambulakhang and the 9th century monastery of Samye, built on the banks of the Brahmaputra.
Days 12-13: Scenic drive to Gyantse via the Khamba-la and Karo-la passes. Visit Pelkor Choede & Gyantse Kumbum and perhaps climb to the fort that towers above the town.
Days 14-15: A short drive takes you to Shigatse, Tibet's second largest town and site of Tashilumpo Monastery, seat of the Panchen Lama. The fortified monastery of Sakya was once the political heart of Tibet.
Days 16-17: A spectacular drive to Rhongphu, the world's highest monastery (5000m). Visit Everest Base Camp (5200m) before continuing to overnight at Lao Tingri.
Days 18-19: Awesome passes are followed by the dramatic descent to Zhangmu and on to Kathmandu for a final day of shopping and sightseeing.
Day 20: Depart
